The DVO plays Mahler! concert poster

On May 31st, the Dundas Valley Orchestra will perform Gustav Mahler’s beautifully lyrical Fourth Symphony. This is the first Mahler symphony that the DVO has performed in its 48-year history and the orchestra is excited to bring this wonderfully charming work to our stage. Soprano soloist Jocelyn Fralick will join the DVO in the final movement of the work singing, “Das himmlische Leben” (“The Heavenly Life”).

Also on the program, we will be featuring our Principal Trombone Dan Grieve in Launy Grøndahl’s Trombone Concerto and the winning submission for the DVO’s 2026 Student Composer Competition, Smokey Hills, by David Archibald.  Raised in Penticton, BC, Mr. Archibald is now a student at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University.   The DVO Student Composer Competition is supported by Dr. Peter Banting.

Programme:

  1. David Archibald: Smokey Hills
  2. Launy Grøndahl: Trombone Concerto
  3. Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 4

The concert will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W., Dundas (corner of Cross and Park Streets) in Dundas, starting at 3 p.m. on May 31. There will be a reception following the concert.
